How to care for your scalp.

Your scalp can be so easy to ignore or just a vague thing on how to take care of or if it has a problem. Sometimes our scalp could be so dry and we don’t even know we confuse it with dandruff / being dirty or we just ignore it altogether. However, our scalp is very important, and keeping it clean and healthy is also fundamental to a healthy hair journey. So how exactly do we care for our scalp?

Every strand of your hair grows through a hair follicle located on your scalp, sebum is produced by each of these follicles and is what provides our hair with natural moisture, the amount of sebum your follicles produce varies from person to person. However, it is important to keep in mind when we are thinking about the health and state of our scalp that a clean, healthy scalp is essential to hair growth.

Exfoliate
We have to understand that our scalp is skin, our hair grows through that skin and as we know one of the key factors to healthy skin is …..Exfoliating. Over time dead skin cells build up, they clog pores and affect the appearance and health of our skin. So it is so important to ensure that we are removing this build-up. Just like we need a clarify our hair strands ever so often, we need to exfoliate the scalp, not only does it remove any dead skin cells that may be blocking hair follicles it helps in blood circulation that aids in hair growth, carrying nutrient-rich blood to our scalp. So as part of your regimen once a week you can start with using an amazing scalp exfoliating scrub.

Cleanse
Now apart from the exfoliating we need to cleanse, you may think it isn’t exfoliating and cleansing practically the same….No. Exfoliating helps loosen the dead skin and buildup, we need to now cleanse that away with a shampoo that’s ideal for your hair type along with any bacteria or whatever else may be lingering on our scalp.

Moisture… balance
How can we tell dandruff from dry scalp, as the name implies dry scalp happens when there isn’t any moisture on scalp and it appears dry and flaky, however, dandruff is from too much oil on the scalp and the flakes are usually bigger and may sometimes have a yellow color. It is important to keep an eye on your scalp and observe whether it is too dry and apply a light moisturizing treatment/conditioner. Keep in mind light is the keyword to avoid too much build-up on scalp make sure to exfoliate and cleanse. So like most things in life, it’s about maintaining a balance and having a regimen that creates and supports that balance.

Caring for your scalp is important and it should be prioritized when building out your hair routine, it is often forgotten and we spend a lot of time focusing on our strands, taking care of it and maintaining a healthy diet will only help you reach your hair goals faster.
